Built for Real World Supersport Riding
The Sportec M9 RR is built around Metzeler’s latest Supersport carcass and compound architecture, giving modern sportbikes a tyre that reacts cleanly at high lean, stabilises under heavy load and maintains grip across a wide thermal window. It’s aimed at riders who mix fast road use with occasional track days and want a tyre that heats quickly, holds its profile and delivers predictable edge grip.
Construction & Carcass Behaviour
High tension radial structure The M9 RR uses a variable tension ply layout that stiffens the carcass laterally while allowing controlled vertical flex. This gives the tyre a sharper turn in phase and better support at full lean, especially on heavier 1000cc bikes.
Profile engineered for stability at lean The crown to shoulder radius is designed to keep a consistent contact patch shape as the bike rolls over. This helps the tyre maintain mechanical grip during long, loaded corners and reduces the “drop in” sensation some hypersport tyres create.
Compound System & Thermal Characteristics
Full silica front and rear compounds Both tyres use 100% silica rich blends, chosen for their ability to generate chemical grip at low and medium temperatures. This gives the M9 RR a fast warm up cycle—useful for early morning rides, cold track sessions or unpredictable UK weather.
Dual compound Cap & Base layout
- Soft shoulder compound: formulated for high hysteresis at lean, improving edge grip during aggressive corner entry and mid corner load.
- Harder base layer: stabilises the tread blocks, controls heat build up and maintains consistency during repeated high speed transitions.
This structure allows the tyre to deliver strong cornering grip without overheating during longer sessions.
Tread Design & Wet Surface Performance
Central water evacuation channel The centre section is shaped to break surface water and move it into the angled lateral grooves. This improves straight line stability in the wet and helps the tyre maintain a clean contact patch during acceleration.
Shoulder grooves optimised for mixed conditions The outer tread zones are cut to maintain rigidity while still offering enough drainage for damp roads. This keeps the tyre predictable when transitioning from dry to wet patches—common on UK B roads and early track day mornings.
Real World Performance for Sportbike Riders
Immediate grip on cold starts The silica system and thin tread gauge allow the tyre to reach operating temperature quickly, giving confidence from the first few corners.
Stable under braking and acceleration The carcass stiffness and base compound resist deformation under heavy braking loads and strong corner exits, especially on high torque bikes.
Consistent feel across long sessions The thermal balance of the Cap & Base structure helps the tyre avoid the “greasy” feel that can appear when softer compounds overheat.
Who the M9 RR Suits
- Riders of 600–1000cc sportbikes who want a tyre that behaves consistently on fast road rides.
- Track day riders who want a road legal tyre with quick warm up and predictable edge grip.
- Anyone who rides in mixed UK conditions and needs a Supersport tyre that still performs in the wet.
